St. Paul Methodist Church is a small, friendly church community located in the beautiful, historic town of Copperton, Utah, in the shadow of the everlasting Kennecott copper pit. Situated in the southwest part of the Salt Lake metropolitan area, Copperton and St. Paul retain a small town feel set apart from the urbanized city. We welcome all who seek a church home, a community of faith, and the opportunity to experience Christ’s love in their lives.
If you are searching for meaning and a purpose for your life, have everything that you could ever need, but still feel lacking, and are you looking for a community that is committed to helping their neighbors here and around the world, please consider visiting St. Paul.
Worship is the chance we have to gather and celebrate – and to thank God for all the good things that we have been blessed with. It is the highlight of our church week – a chance to rest and spend time with God and with our extended church family. There are probably as many types of Christian worship as there are Christian churches, and most people are more comfortable with a type that fits with their traditions, experience, culture, and background.
St. Paul’s worship can be described as traditional Methodist. We use the traditional order of worship where every Sunday we read four scripture readings from the Revised Common Lectionary, recite the Nicene Creed, sing hymns and pray. We have Communion/Eucharist/The Lord’s Supper every Sunday. Our communion table is open to all who desire God’s grace and mercy – you need not be a United Methodist or member of St. Paul’s to participate.
Our worship style is also informal. We're small congregation with part-time pastors. Our dress code is flexible – suits and dresses are fine, but so are jeans. Our services blend live and occasional recorded music based on United Methodist Hymnals and other Christian sources.
Children are welcome in our worship services. We have children’s handouts for those children too young to pay attention to the church service. From time to time, we have an adult Bible study class where we study books of the Bible or other relevant subjects. After worship we occasionally go downstairs for food and refreshments. Depending on what people bring, the refreshments might range from cookies and coffee to a full potluck meal. You are welcome to join us and spend time visiting and eating.
Time: Our Sunday service begins at 11:00 a.m. and ends by noon.
Dress code: There is no set dress code at St. Paul. Some people like to dress up, while others are more casual. Any clothes appropriate for school, work, or going out in public should be just fine.
Children: We have a nursery room, but it is not staffed. Children are welcome and encouraged to attend our regular worship. We have a kid's worship sheet handout for elementary aged children and older. You are also welcome to bring something for your child to do if you would like.
Worship Service: We have preprinted, laminated sheets with the order of worship. We also have a small bulletin with the Scripture readings for the Sunday. Both are placed on the desk to your left as you walk in the door. There are also children's worship bulletins and offering envelopes there if you need them.
Communion/Eucharist: We celebrate the Lord's supper every Sunday. In the Methodist tradition, all Christians, regardless of denomination or membership, are welcome to and encouraged to partake. We use the intinction method where the people come forward, get a piece of bread from one of the worship leaders and dip it into a cup of grape juice held by the other worship leader. The person then consumes it and returns to their seat.
Offerings: We encourage people to donate to the operation and upkeep of our church. You can put your offering into one of the baskets on the altar rails when you come forward for communion, or before or after the service. You can also donate electronically on this website.
Parking: St. Paul has no offstreet parking, so most people park on the street next to the church. The LDS ward next door also meets on Sunday mornings, so be sure not to take space in their parking lots or in front of their building.
Restrooms: Men's and Women's restrooms are located in the basement by the kitchen area.
Accessibility: Unfortunately, St. Paul is not wheelchair accessible. You need to be able to use the stairs to get into the building or down to the basement.
Methodists have almost three hundred years of experience at making the world a better place. John and Charles Wesley, our founders, started a reform movement in England in the 1700s to bring Christ’s love to those who were not being served by existing English churches. That movement quickly spread from England to America and took hold here.
From our beginning, church has meant more than just an hour on Sunday morning. It also includes an emphasis on striving to become a better person and helping a hurting world. Church is something we do, not just the building we meet in. We are involved in ministry in Utah and through our connections with other Methodist congregations, around the world.
St. Paul is a church in the Utah Sub district of the Mountain Sky Conference of the United Methodist Church. We are active in our communities and enjoy fellowship with the other Methodist congregations and Christian churches around the world.
