Pentecost marks the end of the Easter season after 50 days.  It is one of only a very few Sundays when the liturgical color is red.  Red is symbolic of the Holy Spirit that appeared like "tongues of fire" over the heads of those disciples assembled at Jerusalem, as described in the book of Acts. The Pentecost event is considered by Christians to be the birth of the church.
